Dr. David P.
Melamed performs the most advanced Painless Laser Hair Removal
in his West Los Angeles office. The service and patient care is
unmatched, with discreet attention to all details, assuring your
comfort.
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking,
waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief. Most
hair removal is done using an IPL machine that is very painful,
or using older lasers that are not very comfortable. Dr. Melamed
is the first to offer painless hair removal. Painless Laser hair
removal safely removes unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate
pores and structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas (even
Brazilian bikini in all the private areas) are completed safely
and effectively; results are guaranteed.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Hair grows in cycles. The number of treatments required depends
upon your skin color and coarseness of the hair. Everyone will require
at least 2-3 treatments as the process is only effective on hair
during the early growing cycle. Repeat sessions will be necessary
to treat these follicles when they re-enter the early growth phase.
How does the laser remove the hair?
The laser emits an invisible light which penetrates the skin without
damaging it; it is then absorbed by the pigments of the pilous follicle.
The laser light selectively absorbed by the follicle damages its
functions and impairs its ability to fabricate hair. At the level
of the pilous follicle, the laser light absorbed by the pigments
is then transformed into heat which damages the hair but not the
surrounding skin.

How safe is laser hair removal
?
Laser hair removal is an effective and proven method. Laser can be
used as a medical device since it can be exactly tuned according each
patient's type of skin, guaranteeing an effective treatment. Observance
of instructions and precautions are essential for safe treatment.
Thus, the use of a powerful device adapted to each skin type allows
for effective and safe treatment.
What are the precautions to be taken before a laser hair
removal?
It is imperative to stay away from the sun in the weeks preceding
a hair laser removal session, since tan is a contra-indication for
the treatment. People under medication must warn their doctor since
some drugs can lead to reaction to light and require postponement
of the laser treatment. The area to be treated must be shaved three
days before the laser hair removal session.
Can laser hair removal work for white or blonde hair?
Yes. Dr. Melamed uses Meladine therapy to pre-treat
white, blonde or villous hair in preparation for laser hair removal.

the hours following the treatment. Exposure to sun is a contra-indication,
a solar shield must be used in case of sunny weather.
What precautions should be taken before and after laser
hair removal treatment?
- Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment or until
your practitioner allows it.
- You must avoid electrolysis, plucking or waxing hair for 6 weeks
prior to treatment.
- If you have had a history of peri-oral herpes, prophylactic
antiviral therapy may be prescribed.
